A staircase that says ‘welcome’

A remarkable staircase does not begin with the first step, but right at the drawing board.

For ABN AMRO’s new head office, we designed a sculptural spiral staircase that does much more than simply connect floors. From the entrance, the staircase invites people to get moving, meet one another and experience the building in a natural way. In doing so, it not only forms a spatial focal point, but also embodies the ambition for a healthy, open and forward-looking working environment.

De trap is ontworpen als één uitnodigend gebaar: een vanzelfsprekend alternatief voor de lift en een plek die ontmoeting stimuleert.

Achter die ogenschijnlijke eenvoudige vorm schuilt een complexe opgave. Een scheef geplaatste, taps toelopende wenteltrap is één ding. Zo’n ontwerp daadwerkelijk realiseren vraagt om vakmanschap.

Samen met EeStairs kregen we onlangs de kans om de trap te bezoeken tijdens een architectuurtour. Mooi om te zien hoe een ontwerp, dankzij de kennis en precisie van alle betrokken partijen, werkelijkheid wordt.
