Team NXT is working hard on Belgium’s first EWF building

17 December 2025

A lot has happened since winning the tender for the groundbreaking project on the Diepenbeek campus in Belgium. Bouwcampus 2.0 will be an innovative 5,500 m² building with office, teaching, and research spaces, setting new standards for sustainable and circular construction.

It is the first building in Belgium to use the Earth, Wind & Fire (EWF) system, and Bouwcampus 2.0 is even the first building worldwide to combine this system with a timber construction. A strong team of experts and co-creation are central to the entire process.

The Bouwcampus NXT team has been working hard on the technical preparations over the past few months and drew inspiration from visits to other buildings with the EWF system in the Netherlands, such as the Langeveld building in Rotterdam and the Breeze building in Amsterdam. A visit to our Paris-Proof transformation project, the ABN headquarters, also provided valuable insights for collaboration and material choices.

Bouwcampus 2.0 will be constructed in a modular and flexible way, using prefabricated materials and components that can be detached, so that the building can be easily adapted or expanded. The team is working closely together to integrate sustainable and circular choices, with a focus on the reuse of materials and the smart use of wood and sustainable concrete. The result is a project that is not only innovative, but also serves as an example within the Flemish construction sector.

Over the coming months, the team will continue to work on a modular and circular design, with each step contributing to the ambition of Bouwcampus 2.0 as an exemplary project.
