Ashram College Alphen

Alphen aan den Rijn, The Netherlands

2019-current

The Ashram College in Alphen aan den Rijn is the second time that we have been able to design a building for the Ashram College. The building will receive a central street with aula. By means of a wide staircase the street continues to the floors above with education domains (including Science and Art). From each floor you have a view over the aula and light atrium. The domains will have each their own address with an education square. In the interior expressive walls allow for the creative work of the pupils. The school will also get large sports hall that are part of the massing.

The Ashram College’s green roof is not only suited for education (such as biology classes) but is also meant to relax and move. The roof generates electricity using PV panels that power the building’s heat pumps. By using concrete in the floors and facades summer overheating is reduced. Throughout the building daylight is plenty with large windows that allow for a view over the school square and adjacent treelines.
