Broekbakema is now a certified restoration architect!

7 July 2025

At Broekbakema, we’ve been leaving our mark on architectural history for over a century. Our roots go back to 1910, and that rich history remains a key part of who we are.

Restoration is deeply embedded in Broekbakema’s DNA. For decades, we’ve worked on it with craftsmanship and dedication. Now it’s time to highlight this even more explicitly. That’s why we are now taking the step to become certified as a recognized restoration architect. This certification allows us to further showcase what we do and how we apply our knowledge and experience to future projects. Based on our origins, we focus primarily on the restoration of modern heritage buildings from after 1900. We do this in accordance with the guidelines of the ERM Foundation: BRL1000, URL1001, and URL2001.

We don’t just restore our own portfolio but also work on the restoration of buildings by others. Every project is a unique opportunity to give a monument new future value or to strengthen its social significance in a place that has often existed for decades. Functionality, circularity, and sustainability are always integral parts of our approach.

Starting from a restoration vision for each project, we translate ambitions into concrete design proposals with a team of specialists. In doing so, we actively seek opportunities for sustainable solutions, using bio-based materials that contribute to the environment and enhance social cohesion in the surrounding area. BIM (Building Information Modelling) is an essential tool in our process, enabling us to develop the restoration work and new installations in detail while precisely documenting materials and colors for future use and maintenance.

We look forward to preserving many more inspiring monuments for generations to come, driven by our passion and restoration expertise.
